What To Look For In Phosphorus Deficiency Cannabis

Cannabis farmers must have an in-depth understanding of nutrient deficiency symptoms in their plants. It will help you increase crop yield and avoid any dangerous effects of nutrient deficiency.

Blue, gray, or dark green leaves, shiny leaves with yellow areas, and bright red stems indicate phosphorus deficiency in weed plants.

Phosphorus is involved in the formation of DNA and RNA of the plants for reading the genetic code to produce proteins in the plant. Also, phosphorus is involved in the production of the energy unit of the plants (ATP) for photosynthesis.

We’ll dive into what to look for in phosphorus deficiency for you to have a successful growth cycle.

What Does Phosphorus Deficiency Cannabis Look Like?

Phosphorus deficiency cannabis plants have blueish-green leaves, slowed vertical growth, and purple color leaves. Some leaves also curl; they wither and fall from the cannabis plants.

These are practical signs that your plant is unhealthy, and it is crucial to take appropriate measures. These signs usually manifest in weed plants 6-7 days after phosphorus deficiency.

Severe phosphorus deficiency weed can cause the plant to die. But the good news is that with immediate corrective measures, you can recover your plants fully to boost your yield

What Are The Causes Of Phosphorus Deficiency Weed?

The pH level of the soil is a critical cause of phosphorus deficiency in cannabis plants since the usual pH range is between 6.2 – 7 for maximum phosphorus absorption.

It’s essential to optimize the pH to this range when symptoms of phosphorus deficiency weed manifest. And if possible, ensure your soil is within the pH range before planting your weeds.

Also, when the substrate or the soil is too compacted, it will be difficult to absorb enough phosphorus leading to deficiency. Another important cause of phosphorus deficiency is too much concentration of iron in the soil, making phosphorus intake difficult.

How To Combat Phosphorus Deficiency Weed Plants?

The first step is to optimize the pH to the required range. You can source good phosphorus from fish meal, warm casting, and crab shells.

Another way to ensure adequate phosphorus is to use organic fertilizers containing a sufficient amount of phosphorus. And less commonly, too compacted soil and overwatering can lead to phosphorus deficiency. Therefore do not exceed the recommended water supply.

Maintaining the minimum required temperature above 15 degrees Celsius or 60 degrees Fahrenheit is another vital way of handling phosphorus deficiency cannabis plants. Anything lower than these temperatures can allow the cannabis plant to have phosphorus deficiency since it can’t absorb the nutrient at these low temperatures.

With these measures, your weed plant should start appearing healthy in weeks. Note that the old leaves will not recover, so you can remove them, or they’ll fall off naturally.

How Much Phosphorus Do Cannabis Plants Need?

About 11.25 ppm of phosphorus is adequate for vegetative growth, while 11.25-30 ppm is enough for fresh bud biomass. But these needs increase as the plant increases in size and age up to 60 ppm, according to research by Frontiers in Plant Science.

If this healthy phosphorus requirement is maintained, the plant will grow faster, more nutritious, and with increased yield crucial for commercial farmers. Therefore it is recommended to boost the needed phosphorus when symptoms show deficiency.
