Because of the unique genetics of hybrid cannabis plants like White Widow, Gorilla Glue, or Cherry Diesel strain, the growing process of these plants requires different techniques compared to pure Indica or Sativa cannabis strains.
Additionally, there are a few things to watch out for, as the dominance of the Sativa or Indica genes in a hybrid strain can lead to differences in size, growth rate, flowering time, and more. Here are some tips to ensure successful growth when cultivating hybrid cannabis strains:
At the Marijuana Resource Center, we know how important it is to provide the best environment for your hybrid plants. That is why we’ve created this hybrid cannabis growing guide with tips from our experienced cannabis cultivators. With it, you can ensure the healthiest, most productive hybrid cannabis harvest possible.
Know The Parentage
Understanding genetic lineage is the key to growing hybrid cannabis plants. For example, hybrids with a heavier lean toward the Sativa side may have a greater stretch and take more time to flower.
On the other hand, hybrids with a heavier Indica lean may be shorter plants that finish flowering quicker and produce less yield in comparison.
And balanced hybrids like the Cherry Diesel strain with a 50:50 Indica-Sativa ratio may be the best of both worlds but need an ideal environment to grow, or the yield and quality of the harvest may suffer.
Choose Appropriate Lighting
Proper lighting is essential when growing hybrid cannabis plants, as each strain will require different intensities of light and exposure times. For example, if a hybrid leans more towards Sativa, the plants will need more intense light intensity and longer exposure times than a hybrid that leans more towards Indica.
When in doubt, consider investing in adjustable, programmable LED lighting that can match the needs of your specific strain.
Provide The Correct Nutrients & Water
Hybrid cannabis strains will benefit from a well-balanced nutrient regimen throughout the vegetative and flowering stages. When possible, look for organic or natural-based fertilizers, which are often easier on plants than synthetic fertilizers.
Hybrid cannabis plants require regular watering regularly and should never be allowed to dry out. Be sure to monitor the soil moisture levels using a moisture meter or your finger every few days.
Keep an Eye on Temperature & Humidity Levels
Proper temperature and humidity are essential for the healthy growth of hybrid cannabis plants. The ideal temperature range for hybrid cannabis strain during the vegetative stage is 65-80°F (18-26°C), and slightly cooler temperatures of 55-65°F (13-18°C) when in the flowering stage.
Humidity levels should be between 40%-60%. If humidity levels dip too low, the plants can become stressed, leading to nutrient deficiencies and other problems.
Stay Vigilant For Pests
The unique genetics of hybrid cannabis strains make them susceptible to certain pests and diseases. So be sure to check your plants regularly for signs of infestation or disease, such as yellowing leaves, bud discoloration, and wilting.
Cherry Diesel strain, in particular, is prone to powdery mildew due to its thick, sugar-coated buds. If you notice signs of pests or disease, immediately remove infected plants and treat the healthy ones with natural, organic solutions.
Make Your Hybrid Harvest A Success
Whether it’s a Cherry Diesel strain grown for its balanced effects or a hybrid with a heavier Indica or Sativa lean, following these tips will help you grow the healthiest and most productive cannabis plants possible.
