What Is The Best Pot Size For Autoflowers?
The best pot size for autoflowers depends on the size and type of plant, as well as the desired yield. But just because the recommended size varies doesn’t mean you can skimp on small pots or shove everything into one big pot. To guarantee a successful harvest, check out our guide to choosing the best pot size for autoflowering cannabis plants.
How Are Autoflower Cannabis Seeds Different From Regular Seeds?
Autoflower cannabis plants have a genetic variation that allows them to flower in response to age rather than changing light cycles. This means they will grow and flower without needing to be put on a strict 12/12 light cycle.
These cannabis seeds are ideal for novice growers who don’t want to deal with adjusting light cycles and for outdoor growers who need to get a harvest in as quickly as possible.
Why Can’t I Use The Same Pot Size For Autoflowers As I Would With Regular Seeds?
Because autoflowering cannabis plants flower in response to age rather than light cycles, they grow much faster (and taller) than their regular cannabis strain counterparts. As such, they require much more space to reach their full potential.
This rapid growth means it is essential to choose the right pot size and give each plant the space it needs. Anything too small will stunt growth, while overly large pots can lead to overfeeding or drowning out your plants.Â
Choosing The Best Pot Size For Autoflowers
The best pot size for autoflowering cannabis plants depends on the type of autoflower and the desired yield. However, the pot should never be smaller than 6.5 liters and no larger than 15 liters.
For cannabis strains known to grow smaller, like auto-Amnesia Haze, auto-Bubble Hush, or auto-Lowryder, smaller pots like 6.5 or 8 liters are ideal. With this size, you should have no difficulties keeping the soil moist and adequately aerated.
Medium-sized autoflowers like the auto-Northern Light, auto-Cream Caramel or auto-White Widow would do best in a pot size of 10 to 12 liters.
Finally, larger strains such as auto-Bruce Banner or auto-Purple Punch should be put in a pot size between 12 and 15 liters. This will give them the space to reach their full potential with plenty of room for roots to grow – which means more bud at harvest!
How To Pot Autoflower Cannabis Seeds?
Choosing the right pot size is only part of the equation when it comes to potting autoflowers. It’s also important to fill your pot with premium potting soil with good drainage, aeration, and the correct pH level (between 6 & 7).
Adequate watering is essential for successful autoflower growth and harvest. If you are new to growing cannabis at home, it’s wise to invest in a moisture meter to help you monitor the soil and know when your plants need a drink.
You should also wait until the seedling has developed two or three sets of true leaves before potting, as the plant will be more fragile during this stage. Once you have placed your seedlings in the soil, gently pat down the surface to make sure that there are no air pockets.
Pot Autoflower Cannabis Plants Right For The Biggest Yields
There is no one-size-fits-all solution to choosing the best pot size for autoflowers, but by taking into consideration the type of plant and desired yield, you can ensure that each individual plant has enough space to reach its full potential.
